The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. Last year, nearly 530,000 new businesses were started each month, and when all was said and done, 2014 represented the biggest year-over-year increase in startups in 20 years.
That doesn’t mean today’s entrepreneurs don’t face sincere, imposing challenges. With greater volume comes greater competition in a space already hotly contested. With mentors, resources, investors, and partnerships all on the line and demanding attention, it can be difficult to bring the next great idea to market, let alone getting off the ground! The hardest part of starting up, after all, is starting out.
That’s what Startup Weekend, powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, is all about, and why Gruen Agency is exceedingly proud to be a sponsor of Startup Weekend in Messina, Sicily, starting November 13, 2015.
Startup Weekend is a chance for serial entrepreneurs and first-time creatives alike to collaborate in a fast-paced environment. Between Friday and Sunday, entrepreneurs will form teams centered around promising ideas, develop their pitch and product, and make their case in front of investors–all in the span of 54 hours. Along the way, teams will have access to leading mentors for working through their hardest problems and a bevy of resources. They’ll develop websites, marketing plans, and slide decks, talk through logistics and customer validation, and–when all is said and done–present their ideas to a panel of judges for prize consideration.
As a Google Partner, Gruen Agency is humbled by the opportunity to sponsor an event where ideas fuel innovation. The unique atmosphere of collaboration and competition, which pushes people to become their best selves, is an ideal worth striving for.
“Learning from our friends near and far is how we thrive,” echoes Bruce Gruen, founder and CEO. “Startup Weekend in Sicily will be a great opportunity for our agency to extend our community of friends and associates.”
Startup Weekends are held through the year in cities all over the world. This weekend, November 13-15, will see Startup Weekends take place in Chicago, Sacramento, Mexico City, Seoul, Dubai, Copenhagen, and many more, including Messina. Over 3,000 Startup Weekends have been conducted in 150 countries, producing over 23,000 entrepreneurial teams from nearly 200,000 attendees.
